Your Visual Needs Come First
Contact lenses, like your prescription glasses, can correct refractive errors like:
- Myopia (nearsightedness)
- Hyperopia (farsightedness)
- Astigmatism
- Presbyopia
During your contact lens exam, our team checks your visual acuity to test how well you see letters and symbols from a distance. We also review your lifestyle needs and contact lens preferences to determine what lenses can best benefit you.
At Capital City Vision Center, we focus on your vision goals and aim to help our patients get a comfortable and safe fit with their new contact lenses.
Getting the Right Fit
Your contact lens exam isn’t complete without a comprehensive fitting. The fitting process allows our team to get accurate measurements of your eyes and maximize your comfort with your new lenses.
We begin the fitting process by assessing the health of your cornea to ensure that you can wear contact lenses safely and comfortably. Following comprehensive testing and measurements, our team can fit you with trial lenses and schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your comfort with your new lenses.
Capital City Vision Center uses fitting technology to help you get a precise fit.
Corneal Topography
Corneal topography works like a 3D map and helps find distortions in the curvature of the cornea, so your personalized contact lens can have an exact, comfortable fit.
During the exam, our team will scan your eyes to get a detailed image while you relax and stare at a fixed target for a few seconds. The exam is painless as nothing touches your eyes during the exam.
Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Anterior segment optical coherence tomography (OCT) enables our team to get a closer look at the front-most region of the eye, which includes the cornea, iris, and drainage angle.
Anterior segment OCT uses high wavelength light to get a detailed picture of the anterior segment of the eye. This test assesses corneal and ocular surface disorders that can interfere with contact lens usage.
We include this test as a part of your contact lens exam as it helps our team consider all the details when assisting you with finding the right lenses.
Types of Contact Lenses
Contact lenses fall under 2 main categories, soft contact lenses and rigid gas permeable (RGP). Among these 2 categories, Capital City Vision Center offers specialty contact lenses that can help address some of your unique vision needs.
Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral lenses are an excellent option for patients who may not be able to wear contacts due to eye issues such as dry eye syndrome and keratoconus.
Scleral contact lenses are different from traditional contacts. These lenses are larger and rest on the sclera or white of your eyes. Scleral lenses vault over the cornea and allow for more space, providing extra breathability.
Scleral contacts also create a fluid reservoir to keep your eyes hydrated.
Toric Contact Lenses
Toric lenses help address and correct astigmatism. These lenses are available in both soft and RGP designs.
Toric contact lenses contain multiple powers, one vertical and the other horizontal. The bottom of the lens is weighted, allowing the lenses to center correctly on the eye. Toric lenses require a precise fit, and our team can help find your fit during the fitting process.
Multifocal Contact Lenses
Multifocal lenses have 2 distinct lens powers for near and distant vision. These lenses help correct presbyopia and eliminate the need for reading glasses.
Multifocal lenses are available in soft and RGP options and are designed for daily or extended overnight wear. We can help you get the right fit during your contact lens exam!
Hybrid Contact Lenses
Hybrid contact lenses feature a rigid gas permeable center surrounded by a soft outer ring. These lenses correct many refractive errors, such as myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Hybrid lenses can also correct keratoconus, which is an irregular curvature of the cornea.
