What Is Dry Eye?
At Capital City Vision Center, we take dry eye syndrome seriously, and your comfort is our priority. Our team uses OptiLight by Lumenis to help treat dry eyes and get you the relief you deserve.
Dry eye syndrome occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears to stay lubricated, or something has gone wrong in the tear production process. Dry eyes can damage your cornea if left untreated, so we want to help you get treatment as soon as possible.

What to Expect During Treatment
At Capital City Vision Center, we strive to help our patients overcome dry eyes with effective treatment options. An important part of the process is keeping our patients informed every step of the way and walking them through the treatment process.
Prior to Your Treatment
Before beginning your OptiLight treatment, we assess your overall eye health, family history, and any medications you’re taking that may interfere with treatment. Once you have been approved for the procedure, we will book an appointment and advise you to avoid certain activities, like tanning beds or spray tans, leading up to treatment.
Upon arrival, our team will go through the process with you and answer any questions or concerns you may have.
During Treatment
OptiLight is a gentle and efficient procedure. Our team will apply a coupling gel to the treatment area and cover your eyes with shields for protection.
OptiLight uses light pulses, so you may experience a warm sensation while the light is applied to your skin. We may opt to follow the OptiLight treatment with meibomian gland expression, depending on your visual needs.
Once the final session is completed, our team will assess the need for further treatment utilizing Lipiflow as part of the protocol.
Following Treatment
After your treatment session, it’s best to avoid UV exposure and wear sunscreen for at least a month to protect your skin. This protection is good to practice in general, but essential to consider after your treatment.
Our team will take the time to answer any questions or concerns you may have and review your post-treatment care instructions. Your comfort is essential, and our team can follow up with you to ensure you’re doing well.
Will the OptiLight by Lumenis Work for Me?
While OptiLight by Lumenis is an effective dry eye management solution, we want to ensure it’s right for you.
We do not recommend this treatment if you:
- Suffer from aqueous deficiency dry eye (rather than evaporative dry eye or meibomian gland dysfunction)
- Have a history of keloid scarring
- Have severe scarring around your eyes
Your doctor will ultimately decide whether this option is right for you or not. During your next appointment, ask us if you’re a good candidate for OptiLight by Lumenis.
